With Super Bowl\u00a059 just days away, the decision for\u00a0Kendrick Lamar<\/strong>\u00a0to headline the halftime show has finally been explained.<\/h1>\n

Desiree Perez<\/strong>, CEO of\u00a0Jay-Z<\/strong>\u2019s Roc Nation, spoke to\u00a0The New Orleans Advocate<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, explaining the team considers more than just an artist\u2019s discography when selecting the halftime show performer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it was just booking an act, that\u2019s easy. But it\u2019s not. It\u2019s more about when, why, who,\u201d Perez said. \u201cWhat is the theme? What is the pulse of the times, of where we\u2019re going, of what people are listening to? We take all that into consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n

She notes that host city is also considered as they go through a short list of potential halftime performers curated by\u00a0Jay-Z<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe comes back with ideas. It really starts with his thinking. It\u2019s easier for him. It\u2019s almost like a chef picking the specials for the evening. He comes up with the shortlist, and we work our way through that,\u201d Perez adds.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Though she believes \u201cthere was consideration\u201d for\u00a0Lil Wayne<\/strong>, all cards led to Kendrick Lamar considering the year he had in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s had an incredible year, very deserving of the attention. The Grammys also acknowledged that. That\u2019s part of the consideration,\u201d she explained. \u201cNew Orleans is so rich in culture. We have to take into consideration (that) whoever is going to perform can speak to music culture, regardless of age. It has to nod to real music, regardless of the genre. And Kendrick does that. Kendrick\u2019s richness and culture is really a nod to New Orleans.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cKendrick is the right person for the show at this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
