Jamie Foxx<\/strong>\u00a0opened up about the mysterious health scare he\u00a0experienced last year in his new stand-up comedy special,\u00a0<\/span>Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was\u2026.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning actor was hospitalized last year while filming his new movie\u00a0Back in Action<\/em>, with his eldest daughter,\u00a0Corinne Foxx<\/strong>, saying at the time he had \u201cexperienced a medical complication\u201d but was \u201calready on his way to recovery\u201d thanks to \u201cquick action and great care.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Foxx told a group of fans it all started with a \u201cbad headache\u201d on April 11 and, after asking a friend for something to treat the headache, he was \u201cgone for 20 days\u201d and doesn\u2019t remember anything.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his new stand-up special, the comedian revealed the doctors told his sister that he had \u201ca brain bleed\u201d that \u201cled to a stroke.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was fighting for my life, but I\u2019m here in front of you!\u201d he told the audience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Foxx said in his special that when he woke up on May 4, he found himself in a wheelchair, with doctors telling him he couldn\u2019t walk. He credited the therapists who pushed him to get better, slowly but surely.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018I can help you, Jamie Foxx,’\u201d he recalled. \u201cShe says, \u2018You remember the movie\u00a0<\/span>Karate Kid<\/span><\/em>?\u2019 I say, \u2018Yes.\u2019 She said, \u2018We gonna wax on, wax off.’\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Foxx said he leaned on his faith in God and the love from his family to get him through that dark period of his life, with his youngest daughter,\u00a0Anelise<\/strong>, joining him onstage during the special.<\/span><\/p>\n

His motto through it all? \u201cIf I could stay funny, I could stay alive,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Foxx filmed his stand-up comedy special \u2014 his first in nearly two decades \u2014 last October during a set of three shows in Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was\u2026,<\/span><\/em>\u00a0which received a 2025 Golden Globe nomination for best performance in stand-up comedy on television on Monday, is now streaming on Netflix.<\/span><\/p>\n
