Trick Daddy Says He No Longer Wants the \u201cAfrican-American\u201d Label: \u201cI Ain\u2019t Never Went to Africa\u201d<\/h1>\n

The\u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s Go\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0rapper went live on Instagram, explaining that he prefers to be labeled simply as \u201cAmerican.\u201d He argued that since no one in his family has ever been to Africa, the term \u201cAfrican\u201d shouldn\u2019t be part of his identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m trying to figure out how \u2018Afro\u2019 get in front of my motherf**king race. I ain\u2019t never been to Africa. I ain\u2019t never been to Africa. Afro or Africa. Never been there,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

He later added, \u201cI\u2019m born and raised in Goose, Florida. I\u2019m born and raised in Liberty City in the Polka Bean Project. I ain\u2019t never went to Africa. I ain\u2019t think about going there. And I heard it\u2019s a beautiful place. And I know it\u2019s the motherland, yes. But not my mother, not her mother, and not her mother\u2019s mother. That ain\u2019t their land.\u201d<\/p>\n

Typically, \u201cAfrican-American\u201d refers to individuals in the United States who have origins in any of the Black races of Africa, without implying they were born on the continent. By this definition, Trick Daddy would still be classified as African-American despite his preference otherwise.<\/p>\n

This viewpoint is one of many controversial takes Trick Daddy has voiced over the years. He previously sparked controversy in 2016 with a rant where he disparaged Black women, suggesting they were inferior to white and Latina women.<\/p>\n
